SHUJAN for short, long-term planning to reform state

SHUJAN-Citizens for Good Governance, a non-partisan citizen’s platform, today urged the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhmmad Yunus to take short and long-term planning for reforming the state systems.

For this, the organisation also urged the interim government to take five short and 19 long-term plans and implement those as well.

SHUJAN made the call at a press conference titled “Doings of interim government in reforming state system” at a Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium. SHUJAN central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarker read out a written statement in the press conference, reports BSS.

SHUJAN Secretary Badiul Alam Majumder said the interim government has started its journey under the leadership of Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus. “I extended my congratulations to them. My good wishes with them in the beginning of the historical journey. I wish for the success of the government,” he added.

He said it is obvious that the interim government has to face so many challenges. But there are some works, which have to be started on an urgent basis for the sake of the country. At the same time, the government has to keep in mind the issues of medium and long-term challenges.

In this connection, he said the issues to bring law and order situation under control, ensuring safety of public lives, making list of victims, who were killed or injured during recent movement, providing assistance to the victim families, bringing the culprits under book following thorough investigation under the United Nations and ensuring protection of religious establishments of minority communities across the country.

He, however, said the long-term measures included amendment of constitution, institutional reform, changing of electoral system, reform of electoral laws, reforms of neutral caretaker government system and election commission, effectiveness of the Jatiya Sangsad and freedom of judiciary, among others.

In the press conference, the speakers greeted the chief advisor and all other advisors of the interim government.

SHUJAN members Professor Rubayet Ferdous and Ekram Hossain and Joint Secretary Jakir Hossain were present, among others.
