Sinha killing: Public hearing underway in Teknaf

A public hearing is being held on Sunday by a four-member committee formed by the home ministry over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

The hearing began from 10am at Bahachhara Rohingya camp office in Teknaf.

Hundreds of people thronged the Bahachhara camp; of them, 11 have been listed as witnesses till 11am.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (ADC) Md Mizanur Rahman, Additional DIG Zakir Hossain and Lt Col Sazzad Hossain and Additional Magistrate (ADM) of Cox's Bazar district administration Mohammad Shahjahan Ali—members of the probe committee -- are present in the hearing.

Maj (retd) Sinha was reportedly killed in a police firing at Shamlapur checkpost of Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive Road in Baharchhara on the night of July 31.

The deceased’s sister Shahriar Sharmin, as a plaintiff, lodged a case on August 5 accusing nine people including Teknaf Police Station's former Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das and Baharchara police investigation centre in-charge Liakat Ali.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been given the charge to investigate the case.
