Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today submitted charge sheet against 15 people including former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and former inspector Liakat Ali in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case.
Senior ASP Mohammad Khairul Islam, investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet before Judge Tamanna Farah of Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-4 at around 10:15am on Sunday.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Faridul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.
The court accepted the charge sheet, said RAB senior assistant superintendent of police Mohammad Khairul Islam, also the investigation officer of the Sinha murder case.
Major (retd) Sinha was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post of Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Sinha, filed the case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on August 5.
Of the 15 accused, 14 are behind the bars and the rest one is on the run.
According to the charge sheet, Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan was shot dead by the then officer-inspector of the Baharchhara Investigation Center, Liakat Ali, at the Shamlapur check post on the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road at around 9.30pm on July 31.
Police arrested Shahedul Islam (Sifat) who was with Sinha after the incident. Two members of a social media group of Major Sinha – Shipra Debnath and Tahsin Rifat Nur – were arrested from a Cox’s Bazar hotel and sent to jail.
Later, they were released on bail.
