Sino-Bangla deal inked to set up burn institute in Ctg

Bangladesh and China signed an implementation agreement on Thursday for establishing a 150-bed burn institute at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

Md Anwar Hossain Howlader, secretary of the Health Services Division under the health and family welfare ministry, and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen inked the deal at the ministry in Dhaka, read a press release.  

Health Minister Zahid Maleque, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Md Azizur Rahman, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General Prof Abul Bashar Mohammed Khurshid Alam, and China International Development Cooperation Agency Vice-Chairman Deng Boqing, were present at the event among others.

Under the implementation agreement, the Chinese government will fund the 150-bed burn institute. The facility will have outdoor, indoor, emergency departments, ten intensive care unit (ICU) beds, and 25 high dependency unit (HDU) beds.

Zahid Maleque said the construction of the institute will take two years to be completed.
