Six grassroots women changemakers awarded

Six grassroots women changemakers have been recognised for their exceptional humanitarian and courageous activities in bringing change to the society.

The women were recognised through a virtual ceremony on Saturday where they also received Tk 2 lakh each for their nation building contribution.

The event, the fifth season of Unsung Women Nation Builders Awards, was jointly organised by IPDC Finance Limited and The Daily Star.

The winners of this year’s award are Sabina Yeasmin, for her contribution in medical treatment of 310 women with breast and cervical cancer; Rozina Akhter, for assistance in burial service of 60 people dying from Covid-19; Jahanara Islam, for her entrepreneurship in Cox's Bazar; Fauzia Beethi, for helping the residents of Bogura during Covid-19; Farmis Akhter, for assisting in feeding 700 families in Sylhet; and Shapla Devi Tripura, for founding a resort named Sampari in Khagrachari.

Businesswoman Rubana Huq; Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation, Shaheen Anam; Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh, Farah Kabir; Founder and Chairman of SBK Tech Ventures and SBK Foundation, Sonia Bashir Kabir; Novelist Selina Hossain; Chairperson of UCEP, Parveen Mahmud FCA; Managing Director and CEO of IPDC Finance Limited, Mominul Islam participated in the virtual event.
