Six members of blackmail gang held in Chandpur

Police on Tuesday arrested six members of a gang of frauds in Chandpur over numerous cases of blackmailing people.

Additional Superintendent Snigdha Sarkar confirmed this in a press briefing at Chandpur Model Police Station at around 2 pm.

The arrestees are Taslima Akhter Jerin, Sadia Begum, Hasina Begum Munni, Ayesha Akhter Nipa, Mostafa, Kajal Khan.

On a secret tip, using advanced technology police arrested them from different parts of the district from 4:00am to 7:00am.

The gang blackmailed people capturing them on camera without their knowledge, and pornographic photos and videos.

One Md. Mainul Islam placed a complaint with Chandpur Model Police Station after falling a victim to the gang.

Refrigerator repairman Mainul was called upon on May 7, to repair a refrigerator but he was confined and captured on camera in obscene images.

He was threatened by the group that the photos would be leaked to his wife if he didn’t give them Tk 50,000.

Later he managed to settle the issue by paying Tk 10,000.

Additional Superintendent Snigdha Sarkar said after receiving Mainul's complaint they ran an operation and arrested the gang.

This gang had been calling various people to their homes for a long time and illegally taking money by capturing pornographic pictures, she added.
