A truck loaded with tax-swindled fabrics worth almost Tk 51.91 lakhs in exactions weighing more than 8.6 tonnes has been seized by the customs intelligence and investigative department.
The freight truck was being closely reconnoitered by the customs police ever since it was loaded with the fabrics from a textile storage facility in Chorolokkha on Sunday, reads a press release.
The truck driver got wind of the cop’s presence when he reached the Kazir Dewri precinct around 9:30pm and he consequently entered the SA Paribahan compound.
The fact that the materials were being transported via express mail and logistical service costing almost thrice as much as a regular pick-up van carrying the material, raised reasonable suspicion.
The customs officials were intimidated, misbehaved with, by the perpetrator Md Nazrul Islam and his accomplices carrying the goods which wound up in a lawsuit filed against the suspects in the Kotwali police station.
