Smuggled goods worth Tk272.31cr seized in April

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized different types of smuggled goods including arms and drugs worth Tk 272.31 crore in several anti-smuggling drives across the country in April this year.

A BGB press released on Tuesday added that the seized items include 33.799 kilograms of gold, 16.985 kilograms of silver, 2,97,043 pieces of cosmetics, 9,656 pieces of imitation ornaments, 26,943 pieces of Sharees, 9,327 pieces of bed sheet/blankets/shirt/three-peace.

This lot also includes 5,417 pieces of readymade garments, 3,390 cubic feet of wood, 3,397 kilograms of tea, 75,490 kilograms of coal, 2,198 kilograms of nets, 4 trucks/covered vans, 6 pickups, 13 private cars, 24 CNG-run auto-rickshaws or easybikes and 74 motorcycles during the period between April 1 and April 30.

Two pistols, one gun, four magazines, 31 petrol bombs, and 11 bullets were also seized during this timeframe.

A large number of narcotics were also seized in April – including 11,01,619 Yaba tablets, 26,418 kilograms of crystal meth, 19.905 kilograms of heroin, 1,843 kilograms of marijuana, 23,437 bottles of phensedyl, 22,903 bottles of foreign liquor, 4,859 cans of beer, 5.97 lakh packets of bidi and cigarette, 19,292 pieces of stimulating injections, 5,945 pieces of contraband syrup and 15,36,906 pieces of tablets.

The BGB has also arrested 137 people for their alleged involvement with drug and commodity smuggling along the border regions and also arrested 26 Bangladeshis and eight Indian citizens for illegal border crossings.
