A woman died falling from a rickshaw while a snatcher pulled her bag in Kamalapur area in the capital on Wednesday.
The victim’s name is Sunita Rani Das, 50, who worked as a cleaner.
Motijheel Police Officer-in-Charge Yasir Arafat confirmed the matter to The Business Post and said that they are investigating the matter.
The deceased’s son Suman Chandra Das said his mother and cousin were going to Mugda Bouddhamandir area by a rickshaw around 6:00 am. When they reached near the Kamalapur Bus Depot, the snatcher pulled his mother’s bag from a private car and fled the scene.
At that time, his mother fell from the rickshaw and hurt her head heavily. She was rushed to Mugda General Hospital. Later she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead at around 10am, he added.
She used to live with her family in Gopibagh’s Rishipara area. Her husband's name is Sujan Chandra Das and the couple has three children, he further added.
Meanwhile, a youth died falling from a rickshaw on Tuesday night in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area. The deceased was identified as Nadim Hossain, 30.
The deceased’s relative said that Nadim used to live in Dhanmondi’s Shukrabad area. He is the son of Mahmud Bhuiyan of Laxmipur Sadar upazila. Nadim was trying to get a job after finishing his studies. He was the third of two brothers and two sisters.
