Veteran actor and freedom fighter Sohel Rana has been shifted to a general cabin from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the capital’s Evercare Hospital on Thursday night after his condition improved significantly.

“He tested negative for Covid-19 on Thursday. He has been shifted to a cabin,” his son Mashroor Parvez confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Friday.

After contracting Covid-19, Sohel Rana has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since December 25. He was placed on a ventilator at the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and afterwards taken to the ICU on December 29 as his condition deteriorated further.

Masud Parvez Sohel Rana, better known by his screen name Sohel Rana, is the producer of ‘Ora Egaro Jon’, the first full-length feature film on the 1971 Liberation War which was released in 1972.

In the next year, he shot to fame as an actor with the release of his debut film ‘Masud Rana’. It was an adaptation of Qazi Anwar Hossain story ‘Bismoron’ where Sohel Rana did the portrayal of the fictional character named Masud Rana.

Having won the National Film Awards three times, Sohel Rana also bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards 2019 for his contribution to Bangla films.
