The government on Wednesday approved a proposal in principle for setting up a solar power plant at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar under Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The approval came from the 31st meeting of the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) in this year held today virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division additional secretary Sayeed Mahbub Khan said that following a proposal from the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), the CCEA meeting approved the proposal for the "Establishment, Operation and Maintenance of solar power plant at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar" under PPP.

Mahbub informed that following a proposal from the Health Services Division, the Directorate General of Health Services would procure some 69,375 cartons of 22 types of medicines for the current fiscal year (FY24) for the Essential Drugs Company Limited under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM).

He said that the CCEA meeting approved another proposal in principle from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs for extending the timeframe till 26.03.2024 from 16.12.2023 for making series documentary under the title "Mujib Theke Bangabandhu" as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the country's independence.

The meeting also approved another proposal from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs for extending the timeframe till 26.03.2024 from 16.12.2023 for making special documentary on martyred intellectual under the title "Shadhinatar Bir Santan" based on the Agartala Conspiracy Case as part of the golden jubilee celebration of the country's independence.

The CCEA meeting also approved a proposal from the Ministry of Railways for withdrawing the "Establishment of a Five Star Hotel on the unused land of Bangladesh Railway at Chattogram" project from the PPP list.
