The price of soybean oil has dropped by Tk 5 per litre to Tk 174 from Tk 179, and sugar price has also been cut by Tk 5 per kg to Tk 130 from Tk 135.

Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Vanaspati Manufacturers Association and Bangladesh Sugar Refiners Association made the announcements in separate press releases on Sunday.

The new prices will be effective from Monday.

Besides, loose soybean oil will be sold for Tk 154 per litre, a drop from the previous rate of Tk 159 and a 5-litre jar of soybean oil will cost Tk 850, down by Tk 23 from the previous price, the first press release read.

In line with the price fall of edible oil in the global market, the association has made such adjustments in the soybean oil prices after discussing with the Commerce Ministry and Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission.

Earlier in mid-July, the price of bottled soybean oil had been reduced by Tk 10 per litre to Tk 179 after edible oil prices dropped in the international market.

Besides, the price of loose soybean oil was cut by Tk 8 to Tk 159 per litre and a 5-litre jar of soybean oil was fixed at Tk 873, down by Tk 43 from the previous price.

According to the association, the price of loose palm oil has also been reduced by Tk 5 per litre to Tk 128 while bottled palm oil price by Tk 12 per litre to Tk 148.

Meanwhile, regarding the sugar price cut, the Sugar Refiners Association in its press release said that the decision followed the lower price of unrefined sugar price in the global market and a drop in production costs in the local mills.
