The Ministry of Railways has taken the initiative to launch a special train service from Joydebpur railway station in Gazipur to Kamalapur station in Dhaka, which will begin operation from Sunday.
The initiative was taken in view of the ongoing traffic congestion on the 12-kilometre Dhaka-Mymensingh highway from Gazipur crossroads to Uttara in Dhaka.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell confirmed the matter Wednesday night on social media Facebook.
The state minister in his Facebook status wrote, 'To mitigate people’s misery at least a little, I have discussed the matter with Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan tonight and stepped up to launch special train service from Gazipur to Dhaka via Tongi.’
He further wrote, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given us the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as a gift to ease the traffic congestion on the road from Gazipur to Airport. But as the contractors have been working at a slow pace for many years due to their constant irresponsibility, people’s sufferings know no bound."
