Two foreign ships – which got stranded near Mongla Port for the last four days due to low water levels – have successfully anchored at the Mongla port.
The two ships, carrying the flag of Panama and Tuvalu, entered the port on Tuesday afternoon and anchored on the Harbaria-11 jetty, confirmed Commander Sheikh Fakhar Uddin, harbour master of the Mongla Port said.
The ship, named MV CS Future carrying a flag of Panama, was stranded at the Outer Bar of the port since September 30 and MV Pioneer Dream carrying the Tuvalu flag since October 1, he told The Business Post.
“Due to the low water level, the depth of the Pashur River has decreased, and the ships could not enter to the river port. We sent a hopper dredger to clear out the siltation on October 3, and informed the port authorities to take measures in this regard,” he informed.
According to the port sources, MV CS Future ship is carrying 23,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer and the MV Pioneer Dream arrived at the outer port of Mongla Port with 11,000 metric tonnes of ceramic products.
