Speakers at a seminar on Saturday stressed the need for strengthening integrity to combat corruption and irregularities at higher educational institutions in the country.

They said the authorities will have to adopt mechanisms to prevent corruption aimed at ensuring transparency and strengthening integrity at higher educational institutions.

The speakers came up with the remarks at a seminar arranged by Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) at its conference room in the capital’s Tejgaon.

They also called for developing ethical standards, combatting corruption and promoting best practices of quality and integrity in education.

BUTEX Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Shah Alimuzzaman gave a welcome address while Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum Curator Md Nazrul Islam Khan was a keynote speaker at the event.

NI Khan said there is no alternative to effectively adopting the National Integrity Strategy (NIS) to bring peace and prosperity to the national life.

Nazrul Islam Khan, also former education secretary, urged everyone to fight any corruption with courage.

Addressing the seminar, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University’s former Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kamal Uddin Ahamed said there is no alternative but to strengthen integrity at all administrative, academic and student activities of the university.

He also suggested the university take up the projects under Private-Public Partnership (PPP) to modernise the university labs and improve the textile sector.

Speakers at the seminar also urged BUTEX to play an important role in boosting the production of manmade fibre-based items to explore new markets and attract more investment in the apparel industry of the country.

BUTEX APA committee convener Prof Dr Mohammad Ali and Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) director Prof Mohammad Farhad Hossain also spoke, among others, at the seminar.
