Students of several colleges blocked the science Laboratory intersection in Dhaka on Tuesday demanding to implement the half fare in public transports across the country.

Demonstrators from Dhaka College, City College, and Ideal College took to the streets around 12:30pm, triggering severe traffic congestion in the busy thoroughfare that also spread to adjacent areas.

Senior police officials from New Market and Dhanmondi police stations went to the spot to convince the students, said New Market police station Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ali.

Police are working to avert any untoward incident, he added.

Students said they had staged demonstrations to realise the same demand in their earlier movement for safe road.

As the demand is yet to be met, the students took to the streets again, they added.

In another event, students gathered at the Bakshibazar intersection around 11:00am and gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the authorities concerned to issue gazette notification for implementing half fare in all the public transports across the country.
