Hundreds of students entered the Secretariat on Tuesday demanding cancellation of the ongoing HSC and equivalent exams.

They started gathering in front of the education ministry at the secretariat from Tuesday morning, and flooded the Secretariat at noon to press home their demand.

Later, on behalf of the protesting students, a ten-member delegation entered the ministry to present a memorandum to the Education Adviser to the interim government Wahiduddin Mahmud.

Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, assured the protesting students of a peaceful solution.

Earlier on the day, in an emergency meeting held in the education ministry and chaired by Wahiduddin Mahmud, it was decided that the number of questions for the postponed papers in HSC and equivalent exams will be halved for this year.

For example, if a postponed paper had eight questions in the exam, it would be reduced to four. The examinees however will get full time for these papers. Besides, a new routine will be released delaying the already postponed exam by another two weeks or more.

At the end of the meeting, the president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee and the Chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar had confirmed the matter to the media.
