Students-people joint efforts needed to stop anarchy

Collaborative efforts of students and mass people can be the crucial means of restoring peace and tranquillity by stopping all sorts of destructive activities everywhere in the city.

Students and communities as a whole side by side with local administration and armed forces should come forward and work together to overcome the present crisis collectively, reports BSS.

The observation came at a view-sharing meeting between coordinators of the anti-disparity students' movement and army and civil administrative officers held at the office conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Saturday.

With DC Shamim Ahmed in the chair, Army Commanding Officer Lt Col Shamim Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Saifur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abdur Raquib and Deputy Director of Local Government Division Ashraful Islam were present.

Among other coordinators, Golam Kibria Chowdhury, Masud Rana, Mehedi Hassan, Naosaj Hassan, Tanveer Ahmed, Mehedi Sajib and Akib Bin Tareb joined the meeting sharing their views on the issue.

Additional Deputy Commissioners Kolyan Chowdhury, Sarker Asim Kumar, Tuktuk Talukder and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Abhijit Sarker were present.

DC Shamim Ahmed said the nation has been passing through a troubled time at present and all conscious people should discharge their duties from their positions cautiously to attain the desired yield.

Terming the student's demand as justified one, he said they support the demand and those will be met in phases.

In his remarks, Lt Col Shamim Ahmed said the law enforcement agencies, students and the public in general are now working relentlessly and the integrated efforts will bring the cherished result as soon as possible.

He also said they are extending their support wholeheartedly to ensure law and order coupled with making the police stations effective so that they can deliver services to the people.

Taking part in the discussion, the students unequivocally called for bringing the policemen who were involved in killing and injuring the agitating students to book as early as possible.
