The government has set the prices of sugar afresh reducing those by Tk 5 per kg.
As per the new decision, the prices of loose and packaged sugar have been fixed at Tk 74 and Tk 75 per kg respectively.
Now, in the local market, sugar is being sold at Tk 78-80 per kg.
The prices will come into effect from Friday, AHM Shafiquzzaman, additional secretary at the Commerce Ministry, told the media after a meeting between the ministry and sugar mill traders on Thursday.
A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection will monitor the sugar market from Friday, he added.
