Sunamganj journalist torture: Two land in jail

A Sunamganj court on Monday sent two people to jail in a case filed over torturing journalist Kamal Hossain for his report on lifting of sand and stone illegally from the River Jadukata.

Sunamganj Judicial Magistrate Court Judge Md Khaled Mia passed the order.

The key accused in the case are Mahmud Ali Shah and Deen Islam.

According to the case statement, on February 1 some people intercepted Kamal Hossain, upazila correspondent of Dainik Shangbad and Dainik Shubho Pratidin, in Tahirpur upazila when he was taking photos of illegal sand lifting from the river.

They snatched Kamal’s camera, mobile phone, and motorcycle and tortured him after tying him to a tree.

After rescue, the critically injured journalist was rushed to Tahirpur Upazila Health Complex.

Kamal Hossain filed a case against five people on February 2.

The journalist is also the organisational secretary of Tahirpur Upazila Press club.
