Detective Branch of police arrested a UP chairman suspended for stealing rice of Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme.
He was arrested from Khararia area of Narail's Kalia upazila on Friday.
Jarjid Molla is the chairman of Perli Union Parishad in Narail.
Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazmul Huda confirmed the matter. He said that a case was filed against said Molla for embezzling 40 tonnes of VGD rice.
Upazila Women's Affair Office Supervisor Motiar Rahman filed the case against him on April 18.
He was arrested after Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) took the case into cognisance, he said.
Local Government Division on April 24 suspended Molla for plundering the rice allocated for underprivileged people suffering due to coronavirus fallout.
