SUST students go on indefinite strike demanding VC's removal

Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have started a demonstration demanding three points including resignation of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Farid Uddin.

Protesters started gathering at the university's Golchattor and surrounding areas since around 8am on Monday.

The demands of the students include - ensuring accountability of all concerned including the vice-chancellor in the incident of police attack on the agitating students, public apology and resignation of the vice-chancellor who ordered the attack.

On Sunday, SUST administration suspended all academic activities indefinitely following a clash between students and police. Students were asked to leave their dormitories by 12pm Monday.

Later, students staged a protest against administration's order to leave halls and halt the classes and examinations.

They threatened to declare the VC persona non-grata on the campus if their demands are not met and also declared that no student will leave the residential halls till then.

Meanwhile, alumni of SUST in Dhaka, are also scheduled to hold protest in front of the Raju Sculpture of Dhaka University at 6pm on Monday.
