The Ministry of Cultural Affairs has directed officials concerned to take legal action against the organisers of an upcoming event featuring Bollywood star Nora Fatehi, citing a rule violation.

Issued on Tuesday, a ministry notification read that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had approved – under a set of conditions – Nora Fatehi’s Dhaka visit to shoot a documentary. She had the approval to participate only in that shoot and no other activities.

Citing a number of sources, the notification added that going against the condition, a commercial cultural event featuring Nora Fatehi was set up on November 18 in Dhaka and The Women Leadership Corporation — organisers of the event— have sold high-priced tickets for it.

The directive mentions that approval from the cultural affairs ministry is a must for organising any cultural event involving foreign celebrities.

As the Bangladesh Bank now discourages USD expenditure as part of its austerity measures amid an ongoing global crisis, the cultural affairs ministry had denied the event organisers permission to bring in Nora Fatehi.

It should be noted that on November 7, the information ministry published a letter conditionally granting permission to bring the star to Dhaka for a documentary shoot. However, the cultural affairs ministry learned about the organisers violating the condition.

In light of such events, the ministry notification directed taking legal measures against the organisers.
