A Dhaka Court has sentenced BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman to nine years imprisonment in a case filed on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
Tarique's wife Zubaida Rahman also received three years in jail in the same case, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) during the military-controlled interim government in 2007.
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special judge's Court handed down the verdict at a jam-packed courtroom amid tight security in and outside the premises.
