The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is set to commence its November drive today, aimed at providing essential commodities at subsidised rates to approximately 10 million families across the country.

Concurrently, TCB will initiate the distribution of smart family cards to streamline the sales process. The programme and card distribution will be inaugurated by Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at Malibag in Dhaka city.

Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh and TCB Chairman Md Ariful Hassan, among other dignitaries, are expected to attend the event.

During this drive, TCB will offer soybean oil, rice, and lentils at subsidised rates to eligible families. Additionally, TCB will make a limited quantity of sugar available at Tk 70 per kilogram in select areas, subject to availability.

It is important to note that onions, which were sold at Tk 35 per kilogram last month, will not be included in this month's sales list.

Cardholder families will be entitled to purchase 5 kg of rice at Tk 30 per kg, along with two other commodities, per month. Additionally, cardholders can purchase 1 kg of sugar at Tk 70, lentils at Tk 60 per kg, and 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 100.

A TCB official highlighted the organisation's efforts to provide daily essentials at affordable prices. While rice is currently being sold at Tk 48-52 per kg in the retail market of the capital, TCB is offering it at a significantly lower price.

Similarly, lentils are being sold at Tk 105-110 per kg in the retail market, while TCB is providing them at a more accessible price. Soybean oil, which is currently being sold at Tk 165-168 per litre in the retail market, is also available at a subsidised rate through TCB.

Humayun Kabir, spokesperson for TCB, announced that the distribution of smart cards among existing cardholders will commence today. All cardholders will receive smart cards in phases.

He also warned that strict action will be taken against any individuals found involved in irregularities during the sale of essential items.

The TCB has completed all necessary preparations for the smooth implementation of the November drive, ensuring that essential commodities are made accessible to families at affordable prices.
