Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has postponed the open market sale (OMS) of some essential commodities, including edible oil at subsidised prices, which was scheduled to begin on Monday.

The government agency issued a press release regarding the decision on Sunday night.

Sales of TCB goods at subsidised prices will remain suspended from May 16 to 30 as the process of making family cards and the distribution activities are underway in Dhaka (North and South) and Barishal City Corporation.

The media release further added that the government has decided to sell TCB products (edible oil, lentil pulses, sugar) through family cards in order to conduct sales activities in an orderly manner and reach the actual beneficiaries at affordable prices.

The notification also said that in June, TCB will sell daily necessities to one crore low-income families through family card at a subsidised price.

Earlier on Wednesday, TCB said it will sell soybean oil at Tk 110 per litre from Monday.

TCB also was set to sell sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentil at Tk 65 per kg, and last month’s leftover gram at Tk 50 per kg. Each consumer is allowed to buy maximum 2 liter of oil, 2kgs of sugar, lentil, and gram.
