TCB starts sales drive through permanent store Monday

The government is set to start selling three key essential items among 10 million low-income cardholding families through dealers' permanent stores from Monday.

According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), till last month the enlisted dealers were selling the subsidised rated products at the spots or shops specified by the district and local administration office.

However, the dealers will sell TCB’s products in their designated permanent stores from Monday.

The quantity and number of products will remain unchanged and already the regional offices of TCB including Dhaka have given instructions to the dealers in this regard, where it said, the dealers have to submit the application with a photo of the store to formalise their permanent store arrangements.

The event is scheduled to be inaugurated today at Banani by State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu.

This initiative follows the minister's earlier announcement regarding the sale of TCB products through permanent stores, extending access to subsidised items and affordable products for the middle class.

The items, including edible oil, lentils, and rice, will be sold by the TCB, according to a statement issued by TCB on Sunday.

Each cardholder can buy a maximum of 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 100 per litre, and 2 kg lentil at Tk 60 per kg. Besides, they also can purchase 5 kg rice at Tk 30 per kg from the TCB’s permanent dealer shops.

The inaugural programme is expected to be attended by the secretary of the commerce ministry, among others.
