Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) President and Science and Technology affairs Secretary Abdus Sabur on Tuesday urged the engineers to create smart, people-friendly and cost-effective technology.

He said this at a seminar titled "Proposed Net-Metered Rooftop Solar in Bangladesh and the role of Engineers" held at the Council hall of IEB in the city.

He also asked all concerned to come forward along with the government to build a Smart Bangladesh as overall development means building Smart Bangladesh.

President of IEB Abdus Sabur spoke as the chief guest while chairman of Electrical Engineering division of the institution Julfikar Ali presided over the seminar.

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Executive Engineer Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin said that the promotion of rooftop solar should be increased through the net metering system. In this way a solar owner is also a power producer and can supply electricity to the national grid.

"The more we can increase rooftop solar with net metering, the more self-sufficient we will be in power generation," he said.

Emphasising on increasing the awareness of the use of solar panel in rural areas, they also said increasing the use of renewable energy will reduce the impact of natural calamities.
