The local administration of Teknaf of Cox's Bazar has announced a strict lockdown in the upazila for 10 days starting from Friday due to a rise in Covid-19 infection.
Movement restriction will be strictly enforced in the upazila until May 30. Travelling to and from Teknaf will remain suspended during this period.
Confirming the matter, Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Parvez Chowdhury said the Cox's Bazar district administration is implementing the lockdown.
Covid-19 infection increased in Teknaf in recent days due to a rise in the number of visitors as the upazila hosts Rohingya camps, he said.
Therefore, considering health risks in this situation, the district administration decided to impose a 10-day strict lockdown in Teknaf, he added.
So far, 823 Rohingyas in Cox's Bazar and Ukhia camps have been infected with Covid-19. Of these, 12 died.
