A mild to severe cold wave is sweeping five divisions including Dhaka and some other districts, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Sunday.

According to the regular weather bulletin, “Mild to severe cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions and Cumilla, Sitakunda and Moulvibazar districts and it may abate from some places.”

This season’s lowest temperature 5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Panchagrh’s Tetulia while the highest temperature 26.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf and Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazilas, reads the bulletin.

Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave, and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.

Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog at places elsewhere over the country from midnight to morning. Inland river transport may be disrupted due to thick fog.

Night temperature may rise by (1-2) degrees Celsius and day temperature may rise slightly over the country.

Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

People of the country, especially those in the northern part, have been experiencing severe cold for the last couple of days which has thrown normal life out of gear.
