The High Court on Monday ordered the health authorities to ensure coronavirus testing for pregnant women on a priority basis.
The HC virtual bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim ordered this after hearing a petition.
The authorities of the hospitals have been ordered to test samples of pregnant women on a priority basis.
The plaintiffs including the Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), and secretary for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were asked to ensure the directives.
Advocate Tanvir Ahmed stood for the petitioner while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza and Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukder represented the State.
The petition was lodged on May 31 with the High Court after a legal notice in this regard on May 24.
According to DGHS daily health bulletin, 52 laboratories across the country have been conducting coronavirus test activities.
Bangladesh has so far reported 49,534 coronavirus cases and 672 deaths.
