Tetulia, the upazila of Panchagarh, has recorded the lowest temperature at degrees, an indication of early winter.

Tetulia is no stranger to extreme cold. But this year, amid autumn, dense fog covered this upazila from dawn till 10:00 am on Tuesday.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the temperature was recorded at 12.2 degrees celsius in Tetulia till 6:00am on Tuesday.

Due to dense fog, various vehicles were seen plying on the roads of the upazila with their headlights on.

Locals said the weather had been warm during the daytime for the past few days. But after midnight, "we feel mild cold as light fog covers the area".

daytime temperatures remain unchanged. During this period the maximum temperature is expected to be between 20-22 degree Celsius but the temperature is recorded between 28-30 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded at 3 pm on Monday was 30 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile, due to adverse day and night temperatures, various winter-related diseases are increasing. Patients are flocking to hospitals with fever, cold, cough, respiratory problems, pneumonia and other cold-related diseases. Most of them are children.

Russell Shah, officer-in-charge of Tetulia Meteorological Office, said that, “Temperature of 12.2 degrees celsius was recorded in the district at 6:00am on Tuesday. The temperature was 12.1 degrees Celsius on Monday.”

“But the daytime temperature remains unchanged,” he added.
