A suspected thief was killed in a lynch mob attack at Sarowar Bazar in Satkania upazila of Chattogram district on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Md Mohiuddin, 32, a resident of Sadaha Union of the upazila.

According to local people, they kept some sacks of paddy at the under-constructed Shah Parwal Madrasha under Amilaish union. Last week, 20 sacks of paddy were stolen from there.

Later, the local people were guarding the paddy. On Wednesday night, three persons with a pick-up went to the spot and stole five sacks of paddy from the spot.

Sensing the matter, local people chased the thieves and managed to catch one of them while the others managed to flee the scene.

Later, the local people gave the thief a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy, said Priton Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station.
