Three infected with coronavirus at Japan Garden City in capital

Law enforcers have put a building at Japan Garden City in the capital's Mohammadpur area on lockdown after three residents of a flat tested positive for coronavirus.

The lockdown was aimed to prevent further spread of the virus among around 10,000 residents of 1,623 flats in the compound, Adabor Police Station OC Kazi Shahiduzzaman said on Sunday.

Local people said the family concealed the information of infections and it was on Sunday that the housing authorities of Japan Garden City came to know about three infectees.

Mufdi Ahmed, a leader of the Japan Garden City flat owners’ association, said one Akbar Ali (66) died last Wednesday.

His family said he had died from old-age complications and buried him at the Tajmahal Road graveyard, but his 45-year-old daughter, their female domestic help, and chauffeur developed COVID-19 symptoms the following day, Mufdi said.
