TIB demands stop to arbitrary application of Digital Security Act

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), the anti-graft watchdog has demanded the suspension of arbitrary implementation of the Digital Security Act and the repeal of its controversial sections. Moreover, TIB also called for the eradication of political malpractice and corruption in the country.

The organization made the call at a press release issued on Tuesday (August 11) drawing attention of the government and stakeholders on International Youth Day.

This year’s International Youth Day will be held on August 12 with the theme “Youth Engagement for Global Action”.

In the release, TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, since 2006, TIB has been conducting various anti-corruption awareness and promotional activities through the Youth Engagement and Support (YES) platform involving college-university youth.

“To create awareness among the youth about local and national level problems and solutions and to ensure their participation in decision making process as agents of social change,” said the TIB executive director.

“Like the rest of the world, coronavirus has left a deep scar on social and economic life of Bangladesh. Although it affects people from all walks of life, risk is higher especially for young people,” he added.
