PM unveils Tk50 commemorative note on metro rail launch

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday unveiled a commemorative note of Tk 50, marking the launch of the country's first-ever metro rail.

The premier unveiled the commemorative note at the inauguration ceremony of the country's maiden metro rail at Diabari in the city's Uttara.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, also lone sister of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was present on the occasion as special guest.

The note, which features a portrait of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with a metro rail background on one side and a photo of a metro rail on the other, will be available for people to collect from Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel office starting on December 29 and then at other branches, according to a press release from the BB.

The commemorative note, which is signed by BB governor Md Abdur Rouf Talukder would cost Tk 50 without an envelope and Tk 100 with an envelope and folder, BB said.

Releases postage stamp

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also released a special commemorative postage stamp, an opening day cover and a data card, marking the country's historical journey into the metro rail era.

The postage stamp, first-day cover and data card will be sold from Philatelic Bureau of Dhaka GPO and will also be available at other GPOs and head post offices across the country later.
