Government officials and employees will go on vacation for 5 or 6 consecutive days after finishing office on Tuesday, the last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr.

Wednesday is a public holiday on the occasion of holy Lailatul Qadr or Shab-e-Qadr and Thursday is a day off by executive order.

April 21 to 23 are Eid holidays if the month of Ramadan ends on the 29th day, depending on the moon sighting. If Ramadan continues for one more day, the holiday will also extend by another day.

Government officials and employees will return to work on April 24 if Eid is on April 22, or on April 25 if Eid is on April 23.

Government on April 10 in an executive order declared April 20 as a holiday, merging it with the three-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday beginning at the weekend on April 21.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting presided over by prime minister Sheikh Hasina at the parliament.

Cabinet secretary Md Mahbub Hossain at a briefing at the secretariat said that the decision was made to ease the travel of holidaymakers.
