Police have arrested Shahjahan Chowdhury, a Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former Chattogram MP, from his home in Satkania municipality area of the district on Saturday morning.
Confirming the matter Chattogram District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said they found evidence of Shahjahan's involvement in the Hathazari violence.
Protests erupted in Chattogram's Hathazari on March 26 over the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Four people were killed in that incident.
