Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain will lead the Bangladesh delegation at the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa, as Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus will not attend.

"I will be representing Bangladesh at the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa," Touhid said during a press briefing at the Foreign Ministry here this afternoon.

The adviser also confirmed that Chief Adviser Yunus is expected to attend the BIMSTEC Summit in Thailand, with the date yet to be finalised.

The 2024 CHOGM will take place in Apia, Samoa, from October 21 to 26. For the first time, the summit will be hosted by a Pacific Small Island Developing State.

Touhid added that he will participate in several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. The schedules are still being finalised.

Responding to a question, the foreign adviser clarified that no meetings with his Indian or Pakistani counterparts are planned, as he has already met them on previous occasions.

CHOGM brings together leaders and delegations from 56 nations across Africa, the Caribbean and America, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

The summit aims to strengthen multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and address shared challenges to ensure a better future for the next generations.
