Latifur Rahman, chairman of Transcom Group, one of the largest business groups in Bangladesh, died of old age Wednesday morning. He was aged 75.

An official of the group said he died in his sleep at his ancestral home in Chauddagram of Cumilla district.

He was suffering from many ailments for the past two years and spent most of that time in Chauddagram.

After bringing his body to Dhaka today, his namaz-e-janaza will be held at Azad Masjid in Gulshan after Esha prayer this evening. He will be laid to his eternal rest at Banani graveyard afterwards.

Latifur Rahman was one of the owners of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. He also owned franchises of international food chains Pizza Hut, KFC, Pepsi and Philips in Bangladesh.

He received the prestigious Business for Peace Award in 2012.

He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.
