A trawler carrying sacrificial animals sank in the river Jamuna in Char Shibalaya area of Manikganj's Shibalaya upazila on Friday morning.
Firoz Kabir, officer-in-charge of Shibalaya Police Station, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Cattle traders were coming to the weekly market at Aricha Ghat from Nagarbari in Pabna with 40 to 45 sacrificial cows in the trawler, he said, when the vessel capsized by the current not far from the wharf.
The locals came forward by boats immediately and rescued the traders and farmers along with five cows alive. No trace of the trawler along with the rest of the cows was found.
