Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Wednesday warned that those who will try to create anarchy will be dealt with iron hands.

"We observed that the Jamaat leaders and activists tried to create unrest at Shahbagh on Monday night. Those, who will try to create anarchy, will be dealt with iron hands," he told journalists after attending a function at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

Bangladesh Police Liberation War Museum organised a discussion and prize distribution ceremony, for the winners of a quiz competition, marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

The quiz competition was held among the children of police personnel and civil staff working in various police units in Dhaka.

Besides, an essay writing competition on Bangabandhu's life and ideology was held among the police personnel and civil staff working in different police units.

Noting that Bangladesh police has the capacity to curb militancy, the IGP said, "We will be able to eradicate militancy wherever they (militants) try to take shelter."

"Law enforcement agencies destroyed the militants' dens and their networks across the country and now police and intelligence agencies are on alert in dealing with any untoward situation to ensure the safety and security of the people," Mamun said.

High officials of police, principals of various educational institutions, and students were present at the programme.
