Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will sit for talks with the owners and workers of trucks and covered vans on Monday night, as truckers continue to observe a nationwide strike protesting the recent fuel price hike.

The meeting will be held at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs around 8:00pm, confirmed the ministry spokesperson Md Sharif Mahmud Apu.

Although bus and launch operators on Sunday night withdrew their strike on its third day after the government hiked fare prices, owners and workers of goods-laden vehicles refused to call off their strike and demanded further discussion with the government.

On November 3, the government increased diesel and kerosene prices by Tk15 to Tk80 per litre at the retail level.

This sudden hike triggered agitation among transport owners and workers.

The next day, Bangladesh Truck, Covered Van, Tank Lorry and Prime Movers Owners and Workers Coordinating Council announced an indefinite strike from Friday protesting the hike.
