A television journalist died Friday several hours after she gave birth to a baby girl at a Dhaka hospital, ending her battle against COVID-19 infection.

Rifat Sultana, associate news producer at Ekattor TV, breathed her last around 5:00pm at Impulse Hospital.

Mazharul Masum, a producer at the tv channel, confirmed the matter to the media.

Rifat was battling COVID-19 infection for the last one week.

The baby girl, who was born to Rifat at the Impulse Hospital on Friday morning, has been shifted to Evercare Hospital in an unstable condition, said Masum.

Rifat’s husband Nazmul Islam, who also contracted COVID-19, has been receiving treatment at Mugda General Hospital for the last few days.

The couple was earlier blessed with twins nearly two years ago.
