Two young Bangladeshi journalists have secured the prestigious Chevening South Asia Journalism Programme-2023 fellowship, granted by the UK government.

The journalists are Shikder Abir Mahmud Jahan working with AFP and Channel 24’s Special Correspondent Maksud Un Nabi, read a press release on Tuesday.

The eight-week programme, hosted by the University of Westminster, delves into the various ways in which the media hold the democratic process accountable.

The fellowship's theme is "Good Governance and the Media in a Changing World," and it offers the opportunity for the fellows to participate in rigorous training and research projects under the guidance of some of the most skilled media professionals and professors.

Every year, only 15 to 20 journalists from South Asian countries such as Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, are selected for this highly competitive fellowship.

The previous recipients of the “Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship” from Bangladesh were Masrur Shakil from Channel i, Muktadir Rashid Romeo from New Age, Jebunnesa Alo from Business Standard, and Morshed Hasib from Channel 24.
