Two alleged drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the capital's Diabari area early Friday, injuring a member of RAB in the incident.

The deceased were identified as Khalil, hailing from Narsingdi, and Farooq from Char Fashion upazila of Bhola. They were living in different areas of the capital and were involved in illegal dealing of drugs, according to RAB.

Md Kamruzzaman, assistant superintendent of police of RAB-1, confirmed the information to The Business Post.

He said when RAB signalled a motorcycle to stop at 2:30 am Friday in a check post in Diabari set up based on a tip-off, the riders did not stop and shot at the RAB members, forcing them to retaliate in self-defence.

The two motorcycle riders were injured in the gunfight and were taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead, the ASP added.

Two foreign pistols, nine rounds of ammunition, 3,090 yaba and Tk 10,000 were also seized from the spot.

There are 15 narcotics cases against Khalil and 14 against Omar Farooq in different police stations in Dhaka and Gazipur, RAB said.
