Two killed in 'gunfight' with RAB in Keraniganj

Two men were killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka's South Keraniganj on Monday.

The incident took place in Jhilmil residential area on Monday night.

The identities of the deceased were not immediately known. However, the RAB claimed the deceased were members of a gang of robbers, aged approximately 28 to 30 years.

RAB-10 Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Nazrul Islam said a group of robbers was preparing for a robbery in Jhilmil residential area late on Monday night.

"Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team went there to conduct a drive. Realising the presence of the RAB personnel, the robbers started to fire while RAB fired back in self-defence," he said.

Later, two youths with bullet wounds were rescued from the spot and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while the on-duty doctor declared them dead at around 5:00am on Tuesday, the RAB DAD added.

DMCH police box in-charge (inspector) Md Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter.
