Kalabagan police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Ramna Division arrested two members of the mobile theft syndicate.

Police conducted a special operation from March 29 to 31 in the capital Dhaka and Cox's Bazar’s Chakaria area and arrested them. At this time, different brands of mobile phones and laptops were recovered from their possession.

The arrestees are Noor Islam, 35, and Abu Barakat Mishkat, 32.

The DMP Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidullah confirmed the matter in a press briefing at the DMP media centre on Sunday.

He said that a burglary took place at a house on Kalabagan Crescent Road in the early morning of March 27. At that time, the thief took a mobile phone and cash from that house. The police started investigating after filing a case about the matter. At one stage, the police come to know about the location of the thieves through the use of information technology.

Then the police conducted a special operation and managed to arrest two people from Dhaka and Chakaria areas. During the arrest, a total of 42 mobile phones including four stolen mobile phones and three laptops from their custody were recovered and seized, he said.

Shahidullah said that in the primary interrogation, the police know that the arrestees are active members of an organized gang of thieves. They stole mobiles and laptops from different areas of the capital Dhaka city in different ways and sent them to different parts of the country through other accomplices.

The arrested also informed that they changed the IMI numbers of the stolen mobile phones and sell them. On the other hand, they disassembled the various parts of the mobile phones and sold them elsewhere at a low price, he said.

This officer said that the operation to arrest other absconding is continuing.
