Two more die of Covid, infection rate drops to 1.08pc

Bangladesh added two new coronavirus-related deaths and 214 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Monday.

This is the lowest number of daily deaths in 544 days. Last year, on May 5, the country witnessed only one death.

Meanwhile, the positivity rate dropped further down to more than a 19-month low to 1.08 per cent. It was 1.22 per cent on Sunday.

With this, the daily-case positivity rate in the country remained below 5 per cent for the 42nd consecutive day.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 this year.

Health authorities also reported 214 fresh cases from the deadly virus.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,69,753 and the total fatalities at 27,870 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,734 samples at 833 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,03,69,604 samples.

Meanwhile, 202 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,33,625.

Both fatalities were females from Dhaka division.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 247,560,789 and the death toll to 5,017,024 till Monday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
