2 RMG factories get LEED certification

Two more readymade garment factories have been awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification by the US green building council (USgbc). 

Sharmin Apparels and Sharmin Fashion get platinum certification with 84 out of 100 scores and A M Design get a gold certificate with 76 scores, according to the USgbc.

With these two, Bangladesh has 155 LEED certified readymade garment factories which is a record in the world. There are now 178 LEED-certified buildings.

According to USgbc data, currently, in Bangladesh, there are 46 platinum categories, 95 gold categories, 10 silver categories and 4 green-certified readymade garments factories.

In May 2012, Bangladesh's Vintage Denim Studio was recognised as the first LEED platinum-certified factory in the world. The top seven green factories in the world are in Bangladesh.

Apex body of the RMG sector the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association informed that another 400 garment factories are now waiting for LEED certification.
